The weekend begins Friday evening after 6pm and ends after breakfast on Sunday.
$40 per person if you are coming with a group accompanied by an advisor.
$60 per person if you are coming on your own.
About the Queer-Straight Alliance Retreat
Across the country students are working to create safer places for LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning and Queer) young people. School clubs and student leading initiatives that focus on LGBTQ youth have been a driving force in improving school environments, and influencing social change within communities. The Queer-Straight Alliance Retreat (formerly, Gay-Straight Alliance Retreat), is a weekend designed to bring together LGBTQ young people, straight allies, community organizers and school staff.
The weekend offers a place for young people connect with one another, share their voices, develop friendships work together towards LGBTQ justice. If you or someone you know is a high school student interested in helping create environments that are inclusive and affirming, pack your bags and head to camp. Unirondack staff, community educators and trainers will be offering games, activities and workshops that will help participants develop their leadership skills and address LGBTQ issues in their community.
Zines as a Tool of Resistance – Dawn Graham
Zines have been a form of information dissemination and communication in underground and resistance movements for decades. Dawn Graham has been making zines for nearly two decades. We’ll learn about the history and story of zines, then learn to make one together.
Assessing Power and Privilege in our Personal Lives – Lyndon Cudlitz
With 18 years in social justice education and services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer-identified individuals, Lyndon Cudlitz provides training and technical assistance for healthcare providers, educational institutions, businesses, organizations, government agencies, and LGBTQ+ groups.
Comprehensive Consent – Lauren Meade & Jayme McNeely
Lauren and Jayme are educators with Planned Parenthood out of their North Country Office and will be offering an interactive training on the many ways consent is used and sometimes mistaken in our daily lives.
FRIDAY Friday night will offer an opening workshop, games and chance for campers to get to meet one another. The evening will conclude with a campfire.
SATURDAY After breakfast on Saturday campers and group advisers will have the opportunity to attend a range workshops and participate in camp games, group activities and free time. During free time campers are allowed to hang out in their cabins, walk the grounds, enjoy the art-shop and lodge or go out on the lake in a boat (boating will be supervised by staff). Saturday will also provide time to socialize and discuss LGBTQ youth issues. Like Friday night, campers will enjoy music and stories around the campfire.
SUNDAY Sunday will conclude our weekend together. After an optional yoga and meditation workshop and a hearty breakfast campers will enjoy a closing session. Once clean up is complete guest will bid farewell to beautiful Unirondack as they head home ready to make the world a better place for LGBTQ youth! Weekend workshops will focus on the health and wellness of LGBTQ youth and young adults. Workshops will address; sexual health, positive self-image, advocacy in schools, creative expression and youth leadership in social justice.
The weekend is organized by the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network of the New York Capital Region and Camp Unirondack, with support from Planned Parenthood of the Southern Finger Lakes.

Both forms must be signed and submitted by each participant/camper and a parent or guardian prior to attending the retreat.
